There are many spectacular places to visit in Alaska's capital city. Here you will find a list of possible destinations in Juneau to consider.

Here is a list of possible destinations in Juneau to consider. I can drive you to any of these destinations. I have identified the minimum amount of time needed to see each destination so you can plan your trip. There is no maximum amount of time needed but if you are combining destinations be aware that each destination adds to the overall time and needs to fit within your total available time. My time estimates assume I am departing from the downtown cruise ship docks and returning you to the same location.

Alaska Capitol - Historical
One of only 11 states that does not feature a dome. Located on 4th street in downtown Juneau. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.

Alaska State Museum - Historical
Called the SLAM – Statewide Library Archives and Museum. Located on Whittier Street in Downtown Juneau. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of two hours.

Auke Bay Harbor - Scenic
Located approximately 11 miles from downtown Juneau, this harbor is the home of many whale watching and sport fish boats. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Auke Bay Recreation Area-Scenic
Located approximately 12 miles from Downtown Juneau, this area has several picnic shelters overlooking the water. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Bartlett Regional Hospital -Special Interest
The only major hospital in Southeast Alaska and located approximately 3 miles from Downtown Juneau. Driving you here and back would be about 30 minutes.

Cope Park - Scenic
Located in downtown Juneau near the Governor’s mansion, this beautiful small park surrounds Gold Creek. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.

Costco - Special Interest
Smallest in the world and located approximately 5 miles from downtown Juneau. Driving you here and back would be about 30 minutes.

DIPAC (Douglas Island Pink and Chum) Salmon Hatchery* - Special Interest
Salmon returns run from late June through late September. Located approximately 3 miles from downtown Juneau. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.

Eagle Beach - Scenic
See many Eagles and Views of the Chilkat Mountains and Lynn Canal, the world’s deepest fiord. Located approximately 22 miles from Downtown Juneau. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of two hours.

Eaglecrest / Fish Creek - Scenic
Great hiking and biking trails during the summer months. Located approximately 13 miles from Downtown Juneau on Douglas Island. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Echo Cove “End of Road” - Scenic
Located approximately 40 miles from downtown Juneau, the road ends at the beautiful Echo cove with access to Berners Bay. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of two and a half hours.

Glacier Gardens* - Scenic
Beautiful botanical gardens located approximately 7.5 miles from downtown Juneau. Open from May 1st to the end of September. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Governor’s Mansion - Historical
Built in 1912 for $40,000 and the mansion is located on Calhoun Avenue in Downtown Juneau. There are no tours inside of the Governor’s mansion so to drive you here and back would be less than 30 minutes.

Jensen Olsen Arboretum* - Scenic
Open late April through late September from Wednesdays through Sundays. Located approximately 23 miles from Downtown Juneau. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Juneau City Museum - Historical
Located on 4th street in Downtown Juneau across from the State Capitol. Learn about Juneau’s mining history. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.

Juneau International Airport - Special Interest
Located approximately 9 miles from Downtown Juneau, this international airport is home to Alaska Airlines and regional aircraft companies. Driving you here and back would be about 30 minutes.

Last Chance Mining Museum* - Historical
Open late May to early September and located approximately 3 miles from downtown Juneau. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.

Mendenhall Glacier Visitor’s Center / Nugget Falls - Scenic
Located approximately 13 miles from downtown Juneau, this glacier is the only glacier in Southeast Alaska accessible by road. It is the number one attraction for Juneau tourists. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Overstreet Park /Tahku Whale Statute - Scenic
Located on 9th street in downtown Juneau. The start (or end) of the Sea Walk and location of four totem poles. Great photo point towards the cruise ships. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of 30 minutes.

Perseverance Trail - Scenic
Located approximately 2 miles from downtown Juneau in Last Chance Basin. Oldest mining road in Alaska, but now a trail. Other trails such as the Flume and Mt. Roberts also start in Last Chance Basin. Driving you here and back would be about 30 minutes.

Located approximately 22 miles from downtown Juneau, this beautiful area is open daily. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

Skater’s Cabin - Scenic
Located approximately 14 miles from downtown Juneau, this shelter overlooks the Mendenhall glacier. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.

Treadwell Mine Historic Trail (Savikko Park) - Special Interest
Located approximately 3 miles from downtown Juneau on Douglas Island. The trail walks through the mining ruins of the largest underground gold mine in the world. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour and a half.

West Glacier Trail - Scenic
Located approximately 14 miles from downtown Juneau, the west glacier trail gives you a different view of the Mendenhall glacier. The trail head is near Skater’s cabin. To drive you here and back you need a minimum of an hour.

Wickersham House Historic site* - Historical
Located on 7th street in downtown Juneau, this historic site is open Tuesday through Saturday mid-May through mid-August. To drive you here and back and for you to explore you need a minimum of an hour.
